The Ninja Spotlight Thread - CROOKED I Edition
« on: July 19, 2009, 05:44:09 PM »
Welcome to The Ninja Spotlight (Crooked I Edition)... Featuring Music, a Podcast, and a Documentary, the Crooked I Spotlight is the most comprehensive yet.

To answer some questions:

--Why not use the real videos?--
We're not totally against doing that, but as it stood, we wanted the music itself to be what there was the most intense focus on. In addition of course to being able to advertise the sites that the artist would want directly into the Avi. As well as make it understood that these were Ninja Spotlight pieces.

--Can anyone be featured on the Spotlight?--
Absolutely not. As it stands, this is a Hip-Hop centric and Spotlight features are reserved for Underground artists that epitomize what Hip-Hop is about but are getting nowhere near the kind of attention they should be.

--How often will The Spotlight release?
For now every 4-6 weeks. Depending on its success, this number might change.

... NinjaVideo is proud to present the third artist to be featured on the Ninja Spotlight ...

~CROOKED I~

... I'm not quite sure when it happened, but at some point, this little project that wadswerth and I put together on a whim, attracted names and idols out of nowhere. From its Inception with Immortal Technique, to the kindred spirit that was Lowkey, to currently... and arguably the biggest Underground artist to come out of the West Coast... CROOKED I.

Before I go any further however, let me offer my apologies as this is quite behind schedule. However, I'm sure Dominick understands and hopefully will be around in the near future to answer some more questions about his long awaited solo album, which is due to be worked on after the completion of a slew of summer projects.

The Ninja Spotlight is showcasing five songs chosen personally by Crooked I, and featuring future tracks by Group Therapy that stay getting play in my life. Above each video is a link to
Crooked's MySpace which if you use, I encourage you to post some love from Ninja on behalf of the Spotlight.

As always much, much love to Myst of
SO Empire for helping coordinate this, and Mickey on the US side of things.

~Phara~

I was sooo excited when I first heard that you were going to have an interview with Crooked. Now this spotlight is amazing and would love to hear more. Everyone has to check out his Hip Hop Weekly series and also his 2 music videos he has done as Slaughterhouse.  Keep up the good work!

Slaughterhouse Kills it. Last Night I was cruising around Vh1.com reading some celeb. news and the #2 most played video was SLAUGHTERHOUSE...

The one thing I was thinking was damn, NinjaVideo's gettin all the new up and coming rappers. Lowkey, Crooked I, and not to mention what LostCitizen has done. I saw Dirt Nasty on MTV's Paris Hilton's My New BFF. But this post is not about that it is about Cooked I.

I think this guy has some real potential to become not only a group superstar but a solo one. The new song they have out has an ill video with girls girls girls. They know how to attract viewers..lol

I have to tell you after I left Cali I held little hope for West Coast beats. It never died but it had big holes in it. It's good to see you put your hand to elevate it back to it's former glory. Keep it coming and you've got Ninja love here.

I just wish that the spotlight would do some music worth listening too, rap/hip-hop is just blah.

Why are you responding here then? This is a project that spotlights a specific artist in a specific genre, if you don't like the genre then kindly stfu and don't diss it. You have been a consistent douche on the forums so you've now earned yourself a 3day ban - Linux[/color]

blah my ass xD

SO SO CROOKED! This spotlight is HOT!
I Mean Immortal Technique was awesome, but Crooked I owns! Slaughterhouse is a gift from the god of Rap, and Crook, being a part of it, just makes it so much better

I have all Hip-Hop Weekly tracks, plus a few more
Now the one with Akon and the one with Kobe are awesome too (didn't know of them till now, honestly)

Great spotlight, Phara, you Own just as much :D
and if you go to Rock The Bells, take some pics and do another main-pager with your review on it :D just a thought
Big ups, major props, lots of love
Keep it up :D

I have been hearing Dream Big 5 times now and I love Crooked I's raps, that is a hit right there.Oh and I loved the Group Therapy one too (especially the drums on that one). Watched the whole documentary, but have to be honest I mostly listened to the underlying tracks. What I gathered though is that this spotlight is well deserved from what he had to go through and I am happy that I was introduced to him (musically).

/me goes to listen to Dream Big again

Also I want to hear Boom boom clap, clap boom clap again!!!

Crooked is insane good.  I love the Spotlight.  Always introducing me to great new stuff.

But seriously, Crooked's tracks blew me away.  Absolutely amazing.  I've already recommended him to some friends.

And thanks for just posting the music and not the videos.  That shows real class.

I've not listened to hip hop in quite a long time ever since pac and biggie died.. just seams like with pretty much all music now adays it's just asembly line crap.  so it's nice to see people who actualy do it for the love of the artform and not the paycheck get some recog.
crooked isn't really my thing but it's refreshing to hear something decent in a genre full of cookie cutter morons.

Great flow w/ unique metaphors and some mind blowing one liners. This guy truly does kill 16 bars (ref to his jailbait line HA), I'd love to see more spotlight on him and more promotion of group therapy and dream big. "I rap like 100 kanye's or 3000 Andre" hahaha, dope.

could u stop making such a big fuzz about him? I'm beginning to think you're advertising him... he's nothing new but his beats are solid. "I like the game because he's game and we ain't the same" - brilliant line. awesome.

you should advertise some stones throw... they are bringing a lot out lately. and good stuff! or even from your name-relatives ninjatune!

I was just wondering why the spotlight is reserved for hip-hop artists only?

Also didn't the spotlight already hit crooked a while back?

These aren't criticisms, demands, or requests, I am just wondering.

This type of music isn't really my style, but If you ever hear me is a pretty solid song.

Well I have shouted out in as many threads as possible for Crooked. I was a fan of him before the podcast but after hearing Hana talk to Dominic- also known as Crooked I, with such a level of ease it made me realize how down to earth the guy really is. He has become a BEAST in the underground scene out there in the west and his music is reverberating throughout hip hop. HE has collaborated with many high profile artists. This guy is the poster child for what rap should be.

Can we start the WHOLE rap game over again from 1998 after pac and biggie, and fill the whole shit with people like Crooked I, Nino Bless, Royce Da 5'9 and others. Can we get some good content and not this same media driven bullshit.

CROOKED IS WHAT WE NEED!!!!
