What if I can't find the answer to my question here?

You can try posting in the Forums; you'll find they are usually a friendly and helpful place - provided you follow a few basic guidelines:

• Make sure your problem is not already answered in this FAQ. There's no point in posting just to be sent back here.
• Before posting read the sticky topics (the ones at the top). Many times new information that hasn't yet been incorporated into the FAQ can be found there.
• Help us to help you. Don't just say "it doesn't work!" and leave it at that. Provide details so that we don't have to guess or waste time asking. The more you tell us the easier it will be for us, and the more likely your post will get a reply.
• And needless to say: be polite. Demanding help rarely works, asking for it usually does the trick.

"How do I add links to the mainsite?"

A. Short answer: you can't. All uploads are made by the team for NinjaVideo.net.

Occasionally places may become available on the team, though this does not occur often.

You may though upload for the forum: See this post

"What's with the funky descriptions beneath each addition on the Mainsite?"

A. The Staff go to great lengths to upload shows, some of which they don't even like. This is reflected in the descriptions underneath videos added to the mainsite. Some people like these. Some don't. That's life. The posting's won't change though, so if you don't like them, there's no need to read them.

For a discussion on these Middle Menu postings, see this thread.

"What's with the ads on the mainsite?"

A. The site is free to use. There are costs at our end, meaning adverts are a necessity. All you need to do is click 'Skip This Ad', and you can enjoy free videos. TV has adverts during the programme, NinjaVideos are uninterrupted. It's hardly an inconvenience, so please don't complain that it is.

If you are having technical problems with the ads, please see this thread

"I'm from another/similar site and we'd like to cooperate with you. Is that possible?"

A: Yes. Definitely. If you're from other Link Site... Contact us. We believe in cooperating with our peers. If you're from another kind of site entirely, be it an Anime board, a Spoiler Board, an Artists' Board, etc... We're looking to set up an Affiliate Program in the near future and we would definitely like to talk about some cross-platforming. Please PM me (Phara) and I will get back to you ASAP.

"Are all users equal?"

A: NO. HELL FUCKING NO. Everyone is entitled to being treated fairly, and this is an incredibly friendly community, but NO, WE ARE NOT ALL EQUAL. If you are new, unappreciative, and a bit of an ingrate, you will be warned. If you disrespect a Link Sensei, an uploader, any of the hunters, or any of the Titled Members, you will be treated differently than if the reverse happens.  Mind you, this does not mean that the veterans and friends can get away with murder. If they are in the wrong, they will be spoken to just as sternly by an Admin or a Mod, but let's just say they have more strikes. However, they have earned them. If you are not a contributing member of this forum, do not expect to be treated as such. That being said, we don't believe in excessive flaming, rudeness, or any general prejudices. Be nice and act accordingly. However, we don't need your spam, believe me... we're pretty damn good at it ourselves.

"I'm Public-Board. What does this mean?"

A. The NinjaVideo.net forum began a restucturing at the beginning of April 2008, creating a tiered system. The Public Board is where the majority of users will start when they first signup. This is where you are.

We will move you into the Private Board as and when we feel you deserve it, a move that is unreleated to postcount.

Being a Public Board member you cannot view the majority of the link sections nor can you make requests. These are privileges that are reserved for Private Board members, and any attempt to circumvent this situation will result in a ban. This is a term that you agreed to upon registration.

See this thread for the advantages of the Private Board

Currently on the Public Board, once logged in, the following forums are visible:
- News & Announcements
- Phara's Super Shiny Forum
- Lost Citizen
- NinjaVideo Podcasts
- NinjaRadio
- Ninja Spotlight
- Introductions
- Random/Off Topic
  - Forum Games
- Art & Editing
- Literature
- NV (Magazine)

"What are the advantages of the Private Board"

A. Private Board > Public Board for the following reasons.

1. Access to all link forums
2. Can make requests
3. Instantly Cooler

See also: Are we all equal?

Now see: How do I get onto the private board?

This is the Private Board in it's entirety, including Anime, Foreign links, and Asian Links from the Public Board, but introducing TV Links, Cartoon Links, Movie Links, Documentaries Links, 11 Different Warez/Direct Downloads Subforums, Torrents and Requests.

"How do I get onto the Private Board?"

A. In the Private Board, you receive access to: Links, requests, whatever. Because of this we believe that only those that 'give' should be allowed to receive. We are not a site of leechers, and never will be.

Contribute. Be an active part of the forum, and you'll get noticed. Get noticed in a good way (contributing in the Serious Discussion boards), and you're on your way to getting into the Private Board.

Alternatively, by donating at least $25, you will help us continue to bring you high quality content, and as a thank you, we will grant you instant access to the Private Board and you will be given a cool Yellow color as a token of our appreciation.

"How should I post my links?"

A. The stickies in each link section should help you with this.

In essence:

- Use the Search Function to avoid duplicating a thread
- Post in the correct section
- Post with the correct title, following the set pattern as outlined in the stickies.
- Include information with your post if yours is the first post in a new thread.
- Don't forget the link

;)

"What sites can and can't I post links to?"

A1: Regarding Hosting Sites... Here at NinjaVideo, we really do pride ourselves on being a SUPER High Quality site, hence the level of our Main Page. We have extended that into the forums as well, while still acknowledging that the Asian Link Sites as well as Youtube and the likes are extremely convenient for some people. If you would like to add a link into the TV and Movie Links Subforums, those videos must be of high quality, such as Veoh, Google, Megavideo, and Guba ONLY (If you find a new hosting site not listed here, and you're not sure where it goes, please PM SteveH with the details and he'll direct you to the right Subforum). There are a lot of link hunters out there and a good amount of cleaning up that has to be done if the basic guidelines aren't followed.  All other links such as Tudou, Tukou, Youku, Youtube, Tinu.... etc... must go into The Asian Links/Youtube Forum.

A2: Regarding Competitor Link Sites... We don't like them, so please do not post them.

"Can I upload videos for the forum?"

A. You may upload videos for the sections of the board that are visible to you. If you are not a private-board member, you will not be able to see TV links or Movie links, among others, so cannot upload material for these sections. Uploading is a great way to contribute to Ninja, but it is done at your own risk.

Please see this thread (private-board and higher) for detailed information.

"I have found a dead link in the forum. What should I do?"

A. Unlike some other forums, we use one thread per show/movie, adding newer links onto the end of those threads. This inevitably means that links earlier on in the thread will likely die after some time. Please do not report dead links on the forum, or post replies stating that the links are dead. It's unnecessary. Simply leave it and move on. Or if you are a private board member, you can put in a request.

"How and for what reasons should I alert staff to specific post?"

A. To alert a member of the staff to a particular post, please use the 'Report' button, which can be found in the lower right of every post.

Example of when to use the report button:
- Post breaks one or more of the Rules

Example of when to not use the report button:
- Don't report dead links in the forum.

"Why are some users coloured?"

A. Coloured usernames allow quick and easy identification of members who belong to certain groups, meaning you can see from the index who is online at a glance, and ask for help from the relevent user. The colours are a mark of our appreciation for what a user has done for the forum.

ADMINISTRATORS
MODERATORS
LEGENDS - NINJA STAFF
GODS OF THE UP - Uploaders
LINK SENSEIS - Link Hunters
PLATINUM
ONYX
THE LITERARIANS - Literature
THE ARTISTS - Visual Art
MUSICIANS
TECH MASTERS - Tech Help
GODS OF THE SCENE
LEGENDS
DONATORS

Some users belong to a combination of groups, though only one color will be used.

For full group listings, please see this thread

"How do I get a coloured username?"

A. Don't ask for one, that's a start. We decide if you deserve one based on your contributions, much like moves into the Private Board and then onto higher-up levels.

We look for originality. If you've done something novel, and are consistant at what you do, we will consider moving you into the respective usergroup that applies for you.

Bear in mind that if someone comes up with something original and is moved into a group, copying what they did will not acheive the same results for you.

"How do I use an avatar or a signature?"

A. Signatures and avatars show us your personality, so here's a chance to tell us something about yourself. The options to have either, or both, are available in your profile. Avatars must be within the set dimensions and memory size, while signatures must not be too large, a rule we police at our discretion. Please see the rules to see what is and isn't allowed.

"My title is 'New Member' or 'Member' but I'd like something else. How do I change it?"

A. Every new registered user begins with 'New Member' as their title. This automatically changes at 25 posts and 50 posts to something appropriate for the forum, but this is where the association between post count and title changes, so please, no need to spam. Titles are assigned by the Staff as and when they decide a user deserves one. Please do not ask for a new title, as chances are, you'll just be taking steps backwards.

"How do I contact a member of staff?"

A. Contact the staff only when necessary via a PM, located on the left of one of their posts or on their profile.

However, read the Rules, FAQ, Stickies before even considering this option.

"I've been banned. What should I do?"

A. Either you broke the rules, the ban was accidental, or the ban is a light-hearted bit of fun.

You broke the Rules
Your ban will either be temporary or permanent. If it has an expiration, it's temporary. If it lacks an expiration date, it's likely permanent. Simple as that. The question now posed is 'Why did you break the rules?'. It's very philosophical, give yourself time to think. Reflect. If it's a temporary ban, return with a new lease on life and don't make the same mistakes again. If it's permanent, your time at NinjaVideo has come to an end. Do not email Phara.

The ban was accidental
It's possible but unlikely. Email Phara if you think this is the case.

The ban is a light-hearted bit of fun
The mods are crazy and regularly ban other members or staff 'for tha lulz'. You'll know if the ban is in jest based on the ban message that you are seeing. Best course of action is to screenshot and just ride it out ;)
